The Butterflies Learning Centre’s (BLC) main objective is to promote the English language at all levels. However, because we believe that each one of us is unique, we encourage different styles of learning according to the students’ “different abilities”.
What is a learning disability?
A learning disability is often defined as “a condition that gives rise to learning difficulties, especially when not associated with physical disability.” At BLC we have decided to approach this term a little bit differently. At BLC we define a learning disability as “different abilities” because we understand that these children’s brains are uniquely wired, thus they learn differently.
How we support parents
Together with parents, we work as a team and fully support them in understanding and acquiring relevant information related to their child’s learning challenge. Our aim is that parents understand their child’s voice so that they are able to educate all those whom your child comes in contact with.
“Be your child’s advocate!” This means that you are able to defend his/her rights for a different curriculum or even the ability to negotiate methods and skill sets that are more appropriate for your child.
How we support your child
At BLC, we understand and respect that each child develops and matures at his/ her individual pace and this time is rigorously respected while celebrating each achievement. So, by focusing on your child’s strengths rather than on the weakness we support and boost your child’s self-confidence in order to help them discover his/ her unique learning style.
Also, by setting up realistic goals, they know what they are working towards, and we know what actions and steps to take, how to evaluate their progress and how to make adjustments to move forward.
We ask ourselves, is the child a kinaesthetic learner? Or perhaps an auditory or visual learner?
By asking these types of questions we can better understand your child as a learner and be able to confidently advocate for himself/ herself as he/ she grows into the academic journey.
The BLC Approach
At BLC, we practice a holistic approach:
We focus on the whole child therefore we empower your child with conflict resolution techniques, so throughout his/ her lifetime your child can build happy, healthy and long lasting relationships.
We teach your child that the most important relationship is with him/herself therefore your child will learn self-regulation strategies and grow up to be a resilient individual by understanding and naming all sorts of emotions, by learning appropriate ways to manage them and to refocus and adjust behaviours before proceeding.
We encourage your child to participate in activities that help reduce stress like yoga, art, NT, music, or writing and keeping a journal.
In general, we promote life success, rather than solely school success!
For all the reasons mentioned above BLC is the right choice to support your child and. With our qualified staff, who have many years of holistic and academic experience, we are certain that we can work together and help your child to blossom fully as a learner and as an individual in our fully inclusive environment.
