The objectives are to improve children’s school readiness by enhancing their English language, reading, and social skills. At the BLC numeracy and literacy skills are worked together with creative activities through play, all of which are essential for children to easily adjust and adopt strategies that will allow them to thrive within the school environment. The group is open for children aged 3 to 6 regardless of their mother tongue.
A typical day at the Little Caterpillars will start with a big circle gathering where greetings, calendar, weather routines, brain gym and show & tell will be shared by all. Children will then be invited to move through the various Academic Stations where maths, language, sciences, arts, imaginary play, fine- and gross-motor skills can be explored. A mid-morning snack will be served comprising of a piece of (seasonal) fruit and bread after which, once again, children will be encouraged to move onto a different Academic Station. The end of each session involves taking responsibility for tidying up, reflection time and a goodbye song.
We also aim to bring in different forms of expression and for that we plan to invite some music and yoga teachers to join us on a weekly basis.
